Taiko Drum Prices: Cost by Drum Type, Size and Setup

How Much Does a Taiko Drum Cost?

Taiko drum prices depend on the drum type, size, shell construction, included equipment, and intended use. Different drums serve different musical roles, so the most expensive option is not automatically the best choice for every player.

Across the JINLEI product pages checked on November 2, 2026, visible prices ranged from US$30 for an Eisa Paranku configuration to US$65,800 for the largest solid-wood O-Daiko configuration. Shime Daiko prices ranged from US$398 to US$650, while Nagado Daiko prices started at US$490.

The useful questions are: How much does a drum suited to my needs cost? What equipment is required for a complete setup? What additional costs apply before the order reaches my address? This guide uses current JINLEI product prices to help you compare the options and build a practical purchase budget.

Price note: All prices are in US dollars and reflect prices visible on JINLEI product pages on November 2, 2026. They are not universal market prices. The selected product page or quotation determines the final price and included items.

Taiko Drum Price Overview by Type

Drum type JINLEI price range Common role Additional items to consider
Eisa Daiko US$30–US$388 Okinawan Eisa dance, festivals, teaching, and configurations including Paranku Compatible strap, bachi, case, and selected configuration
Hira Daiko US$171–US$2,628 Teaching, rehearsal, and ensemble use Stand, bachi, and case
Shime Daiko US$398–US$650 Timekeeping, rhythmic definition, teaching, and ensemble use Tensioning system, compatible stand, Shime bachi, and case
Nagado Daiko US$490–US$24,266 Ensemble, education, stage, and ceremonial use Size, wood, shell construction, stand, bachi, and case
Katsugi Daiko US$630–US$1,010 Shoulder-carried and movement-based performance Strap, suitable lightweight bachi, and case
Oke Daiko US$725–US$1,780 Stand-mounted ensemble performance; lighter setups may also support mobile playing Stand or strap, suitable bachi, and case
Katsugi Shime Daiko US$980 Mobile performance requiring a sharper, higher-pitched voice Strap, suitable bachi, and case

Large drums intended for professional stages, institutions, and ceremonial settings fall into a separate price range:

Drum type JINLEI price range Additional items to confirm during budgeting
O-Hira Daiko US$2,300–US$15,800 Stand, handling access, packaging, and freight
O-Daiko US$2,780–US$65,800 Shell construction, size, stand, packaging, and freight
Hira-O-Shime Daiko US$3,780–US$12,150 Stand, tensioning grade, packaging, and freight
O-Shime Daiko US$5,100–US$16,380 Stand, tensioning system, bachi, packaging, and freight

The ranges are broad because categories contain different sizes, subtypes, materials, and shell constructions. Nagado Daiko, for example, includes stave-built and hollowed solid-wood shells. The minimum and maximum are not directly comparable specifications.

Eisa Paranku should not be treated as a low-cost substitute for Nagado or Shime Daiko. Confirm the musical role first, then compare prices among drums suited to that role.

How to Compare Sizes and Prices Within the Same Taiko Type

Start within one product series and compare its available sizes. When comparing different series, confirm the shell construction, wood, drumhead, finish, and included equipment as well as the diameter.

For two Nagado Daiko options, check:

  • whether the listed diameter is the drumhead or body measurement;
  • whether the shell is stave-built or hollowed from one piece of wood;
  • which wood is used;
  • whether the stand is included and supports the intended playing angle;
  • whether the packed size becomes oversized and affects final delivery costs.

Shime Daiko comparisons involve more than drumhead diameter and tensioning method. JINLEI’s Namitsuke, 2-chougake, 3-chougake, and 4-chougake options combine different body heights, drumhead specifications, achievable tension, and compatible stands.

Moving up one size can require a different stand, protective case, storage arrangement, or delivery method. Build the budget around the complete setup rather than only the increase in drum price.

What Is Included in the Product Price?

A listed price usually refers to the selected drum configuration, not automatically to a complete performance and transport setup.

Item What to confirm
Drum Which model, size, material, and finish does the price cover?
Stand Is it included, and does it match the drum size and playing angle?
Bachi Are they included, and are their length, diameter, weight, and material suitable?
Strap Is one required for a shoulder-carried setup?
Case Is it included, and does its size match the drum and hardware?
Customization Do a custom color, logo, design, or nonstandard size require a separate quotation?
Shipping Which transport stages are covered by JINLEI, and which are paid by the buyer?

Bachi are usually optional. Separate included, required, and optional items when building the budget.

From Drum Price to a Complete Setup Budget

A Namitsuke Shime Daiko in rope configuration is US$398 and a Shime X Sitting Stand is US$85. If the stand is compatible with the selected model and playing position, the subtotal is:

US$398 + US$85 = US$483

Adding a compatible soft case priced from US$120 gives:

US$398 + US$85 + US$120 = US$603

Example setup Product subtotal Still to confirm
Namitsuke rope configuration + X sitting stand US$483 Suitable bachi, shipping, and taxes
Above setup + US$120 soft case US$603 Case fit, suitable bachi, shipping, and taxes

This is a budgeting example, not a fixed package price. Bachi are not included, and the actual case price must be confirmed for the selected size. A player who already owns compatible equipment may not need to purchase it again.

Plan Katsugi and Oke Setups Separately

Katsugi Daiko is designed primarily for shoulder-carried and movement-based playing. Its budget should cover the drum, strap, suitable lightweight bachi, and protective case.

Oke Daiko is commonly played on a stand, although lighter configurations may also be suitable for mobile performance. Confirm the playing position, carrying method, stand or strap, bachi, and case before ordering. Do not assume that Katsugi and Oke configurations use the same accessories. In particular, do not choose heavy Oke-style bachi for a Katsugi setup without confirming compatibility.

Treat Large Drums as a Complete Delivery Project

For O-Daiko, O-Hira, and other large drums, confirm the stand, packed dimensions, handling route, and receiving conditions together. Provide the delivery address and measure doors, corridors, elevators, stairwells, and other access restrictions. Oversized status affects the transportation method and final-delivery budget.

What Shipping Costs Apply to a US Order?

Under JINLEI’s current shipping policies, the US$500 threshold is calculated after discounts using the merchandise subtotal, excluding shipping charges and taxes.

For orders below US$500:

  • orders containing only bachi and/or Katsugi straps have a US$10 per-order shipping charge;
  • orders containing any other product have a US$30 per-order shipping charge.

For qualifying orders of US$500 or more:

  • JINLEI covers standard shipping to the delivery address for non-oversized shipments, subject to policy limits and possible remote-area surcharges;
  • for oversized shipments, JINLEI covers international transportation to the designated partner warehouse, while the buyer pays transportation from that warehouse to the final address;
  • import duties, taxes, air freight, special delivery services, and applicable destination surcharges are not included unless confirmed otherwise in writing.

JINLEI currently lists partner warehouses in Ontario, California and Edison, New Jersey. The assigned warehouse and final-mile cost depend on the destination, packaging, and current logistics arrangement. Request an order-specific quotation rather than relying on a fixed per-cubic-meter estimate.

Read the current Shipping Policy and Free Shipping Policy before ordering, because shipping terms may change.

What Counts as an Oversized Shipment?

Each package must meet both conditions below to be treated as non-oversized:

  • length + 2 × width + 2 × height is no more than 320 cm;
  • actual package weight is no more than 30 kg.

Length means the longest side. If either limit is exceeded, the package is oversized. Measurements apply after protective materials, cartons, or a wooden crate have been added—not to the bare drum.

Example packed dimensions and weight Result
80 × 60 × 50 cm; 28 kg Girth total is 300 cm and weight is within the limit: non-oversized
100 × 70 × 60 cm; 28 kg Girth total is 360 cm: oversized by dimensions
80 × 60 × 50 cm; 35 kg Dimensions qualify, but weight exceeds 30 kg: oversized

Check every package in a multi-package order separately.

Calculate Packed Volume When Requesting a Quote

Length (cm) × width (cm) × height (cm) ÷ 1,000,000 = cubic meters

A 100 × 100 × 100 cm wooden crate has a volume of 1 m³ and exceeds the non-oversized dimensional limit. Freight providers may use minimum charges, volumetric weight, billable units, or service-specific rules. The confirmed quotation is the controlling figure; volume is a planning input, not a fixed delivery price.

Provide the drum type, size, quantity, and delivery postal code so JINLEI can estimate packed size, oversized status, and buyer-paid transport stages.

Why Can Similar-Looking Taiko Drums Have Different Prices?

Similar exterior dimensions do not mean two drums have the same internal structure, materials, or production requirements. Compare:

  • Shell construction: stave-built and hollowed solid-wood shells use different materials and processes.
  • Wood and drumheads: wood species, usable dimensions, stability, hide selection, and fitting requirements differ.
  • Interior work and finish: internal shaping, external finishing, and decorative work require different labor.
  • Customization: nonstandard sizes, colors, logos, carving, or painting require feasibility and price confirmation.
  • Long-term support: replacement heads, repairs, compatible accessories, and maintenance affect lifetime cost.

How to Calculate the Actual Purchase Total

Purchase total = drum and selected options + separately charged order items + buyer-paid transportation and delivery + applicable duties and taxes + other confirmed charges

Do not count a cost twice if it is already included in the product price or covered by JINLEI under the confirmed shipping arrangement.

Before ordering, confirm:

  1. the selected model, size, material, and finish;
  2. included and optional accessories;
  3. product subtotal and customization charges;
  4. whether each package is oversized and final-mile delivery is charged separately;
  5. duties, taxes, and destination charges;
  6. production lead time and estimated delivery arrangement.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Is the Least Expensive Type of Taiko Drum?

Among the JINLEI products checked for this guide, an Eisa Paranku configuration had the lowest visible starting price at US$30. Its musical purpose differs from Nagado, Shime, and other taiko, so it should not be chosen as a substitute based on price alone.

Are the Stand and Bachi Included in the Drum Price?

Check the product page or quotation. Do not assume they are included. If you already own compatible equipment, identify it before ordering to avoid duplicate purchases.

Do Custom Colors or Sizes Cost More?

It depends on the model and feasible customization range. Confirm the specification and price in the quotation. There is no single surcharge that applies to every custom order.

Does an Order Over US$500 Mean the Buyer Pays No Shipping-Related Costs?

No. A qualifying non-oversized order may receive covered standard shipping to the delivery address. For an oversized order, JINLEI covers transport to the designated partner warehouse, while the buyer pays final-mile delivery. Duties, taxes, air freight, remote-area surcharges, and special delivery services may remain the buyer’s responsibility.

Does a Product-Page Price Mean That Configuration Is Ready to Ship?

Not necessarily. Size, finish, customization, and production schedule can affect availability and lead time. Confirm production lead time and delivery arrangements before ordering.
