O-Daiko (暁 Akatsuki Series) Hollowed-out Solid Wood

O-Daiko (暁 Akatsuki Series) Hollowed-out Solid Wood is a professional kurinuki taiko hand-carved from a single, naturally dried log. Built for stage performance, ensembles, schools and cultural centers, its solid shell and cowhide heads produce deep resonance, long sustain and a powerful low-end presence.

Traditional Kurinuki Solid-Wood Construction

Each Akatsuki Series drum is hollowed from one solid log rather than assembled from staves. Depending on size and material availability, suitable hardwoods may include African Padauk, Ash, Camphor and other carefully selected solid woods.

• Body: Single-log hollowed solid shell (kurinuki).
• Heads: Genuine cowhide selected for strong attack and sustained low tones.
• Craftsmanship: Individually shaped and finished to preserve the natural character of the wood.

Deep Resonance for Professional Performance

The solid shell supports rich bass, strong projection and long reverberation. The drum is tuned to a relatively high pitch before shipping; with regular playing, the tone gradually settles, deepens and develops greater complexity.

Natural Wood Grain, Color and Weight

Every solid log has unique grain, density and color, so the finished drum may differ slightly from the photos and from another drum of the same size. Natural differences in the wood also affect the final weight. Lighting and display settings may further change how the finish appears on screen.

Custom Finish Options

Custom colors may be available at additional cost. Add your request to the order notes and provide a color sample by email so the JINLEI team can confirm feasibility before production.

Production and Availability

Order processing normally takes approximately 60–90 business days. The solid logs used for kurinuki drums require three to five years of natural drying, so availability can vary by size and wood species. If the selected option is temporarily unavailable, the JINLEI team will contact you with the available alternatives or expected production timing.
